Our public schools are an important part of our communities. They educate our children, support our families, employ our neighbors, and help build the future of our region. That's why the funding challenges facing Missouri public education deserve our attention.
For fiscal year 2027, the Missouri General Assembly appropriated approximately $190.6 million less than what is needed to fully fund Missouri's Foundation Formula.
What does that mean for our area?
Five West Plains area school districts have reported a combined potential funding loss of $1,028,399.94.
That includes:
• Howell Valley: $72,143.93
• Glenwood: $88,471.39
• Richards: $134,665.21
• Fairview: $157,630.00
• West Plains: $575,489.41
Junction Hill is currently hold harmless, meaning no dollar loss is presently identified for the district. However, additional reductions could change that situation.
These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet. Continued funding challenges can put pressure on the resources schools use every day, including classroom staffing, special education, student interventions, transportation, instructional materials, technology, extracurricular activities, and facility maintenance.
The impact of school funding reaches well beyond the classroom. It affects students, parents, educators, businesses, and the communities we all call home.
So, what can we do?
We encourage families and community members to contact Governor Mike Kehoe and their Missouri state senator and representative ahead of and during the spring 2027 legislative session. Ask our elected leaders to fully fund Missouri's Foundation Formula, address the existing shortfall, and protect educational opportunities for students throughout our state.
This isn't about one school district competing with another. It's about recognizing that strong public schools benefit everyone.

ANNUAL TITLE I, PARENT AND FAMILY MEETING

Dear Junction Hill Parents and Families:
Junction Hill C-12 School participates in Title I, a federal program designed to provide additional support and resources to help students achieve academic success. As part of our commitment to keeping families informed and involved in their children's education, we invite you to join us for our Annual Title I Parent and Family Meeting.
We want this to be more than simply a meeting. We want it to be an opportunity for our school and families to come together.
During the evening, we will provide pizza for families, and students will have the opportunity to participate in fun activities in classrooms throughout the school as part of the Title I meeting. The Book Fair will also be open in the Library!
During the Title I meeting, we will:
Inform parents and families about Junction Hill C-12 School's participation in the Title I, program.
Explain the requirements of Title I.
Explain parents' rights to be involved in the planning, review, and improvement of the Title I program.
Provide information about the services and supports provided through Title I.
Review the school's Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy and School-Parent Compact.
Discuss student achievement, curriculum, assessments, and opportunities for academic support.
Provide parents and families an opportunity to ask questions, offer suggestions, and provide input regarding the Title I program.
Your participation and input are important to us. We encourage all parents and guardians of students participating in Title I to attend. We hope you will join us for an evening of good food, student activities, and an opportunity to learn more about our Title I program and help us continue to improve the support we provide to our students and families.

Some area schools will be observing Zizzer Homecoming with a shortened school day. While we love and support the Zizzers, Junction Hill School will be in full session that day.
Our high school students will ride their normal afternoon dismissal buses as usual.
Also on Friday, September 25, our Baseball/Softball teams will play the Richard Rockets at Richards beginning at 9:00 a.m.
