Depleting Resources

Ms. Blankenship’s 6th grade science classes have recently been studying about natural resources and the depletion of those that are nonrenewable. Less than 10% of all energy sources used in the United States come from renewable resources. In this lab activity, students explored how quickly fossil fuels can be depleted if countries do not consider the amount they are using. Through this scenario they were able to demonstrate how many years it would take for fossil fuels to run out, and why it would be such a worldwide crisis if that were to happen. Then the students were asked to come up with different solutions to this potential problem.
